Sarah Bourke

Sarah is a barrister based in London. Sarah is able to accept instructions from solicitors. She is also licenced to accept instructions from members of the public who do not have a solicitor under the Direct Access scheme. Sarah was called to the Bar in 1996. She spent 8 years specialising in employment and equality law at Brent Community Law Centre in London. She joined the Employment Team at Tooks Chambers in 2006. At Tooks, Sarah expanded her practice to include prison law and inquests. Sarah has been involved in a number of high profile cases including the equal pay actions against Birmingham City Council, the inquest into the death of Judge Andrew Chubb and disciplinary proceedings against a practitioner of gay conversion therapy. 


Sarah is a regular lecturer in gender equality law at the Academy of European Law in Trier, Germany. In May 2014, Sarah gave a presentation on prisoners' rights to the first meeting of the Transgender Europe Lawyers' network. Sarah also provides training to lawyers and activists on equality law matters. 

 

In 2008, Sarah was appointed as a part-time judge in the Social Security and Child Support Appeals Tribunal.
